Testing for water quality in an aquaculture facility (NZQA Unit Standard: 17255)
Learn about the importance of water quality to aquatic organisms. Learn how to measure and adjust the physical conditions and concentrations of natural chemical and physical conditions and how to purify and sterilise water to keep culturing conditions healthy.

Monitor and maintain reticulated water systems for on-shore aquaculture or holding facilities (NZQA Unit Standard: 17252)
Learn about operating and maintaining equipment for holding animals and about pumping, heating, cooling, filtering and purifying water for recirculation systems.

This short course in the aquatic consent process covers the following topics and unit standards:

Explain the procedures to gain legal authorisation for an aquaculture associated activity. (NZQA Unit Standard: 19217)
Learn about obtaining Resource COnsents for selected aquaculture activities and about all the legal documentation required under current legislation. Unit includes developing model consent applications and understanding administrative difficulties.

Demonstrate a knowledge of the transfer of aquaculture species from one site to another. (NZQA Unit Standard: 19774)
Understand and learn how to complete the documentation required for transferring an aquaculture species from one site to another. Includes: preparing the species for transfer, managing the transfer process, and monitoring the condition of the aquaculture species after transfer to their new holding or culture facility.
