Wine Appreciation

Fun, informative professional courses for anyone interested in learning more about wine. If it's just for fun, or part of your profession, this course will give you the knowledge and confidence to serve and advise on wine. As wine evaluation (tasting) is a component of every session it would be beneficial to complete session one first. (Wine evaluation is taught in session one and practised in sessions two, three and four.) All sessions include a student manual to take home.


Course 1 - "A Great Match"

Attend this session if you would like to:

  • Make better choices when choosing wine
  • Wish to match a wine to your food
  • Understand the terms on the label
  • Choose and describe a wine for a customer
  • Advise a customer on a suitable wine to match their meal
This session includes a tasting of white wines.
Date: 13th April 6pm - 9pm
Cost: $100.00 - includes white wine tasting selection plus a range of cheeses, breads and crackers

Course 2 - "Full Bodied"

Attend this session if you would like to:

  • Understand how viticulture and viniculture affect the taste of the wine including:
  • trellising, weather, soil, heat during the ripening season, temperature, yeast,
  • stainless steel versus oak
This session includes tasting of red wines.
Date: 4th May 6pm - 9pm
Cost: $100.00 - includes red wine tasting selection, plus a selection of breads and crackers.

Session 3 - "Bubble and Fizz"

Attend this session if you would like to:

  • Learn about the viticulture and viniculture of sparkling wines
  • Know the differences between Champange, Methode Traditionalle, sparkling wines
  • Understand how to serve wine and the history and reasons for doing so
  • Learn about the New Zealand wine market and regions
This session includes tasting of sparkling wines.
Date: 1st June 6pm -9pm   Cancelled
Cost: $100.00 - includes sparkling wine tasting selection, plus a selection of breads and crackers.

Session 4 - "Delightful Deserts"

Attend this session if you would like to:

  • Understand how viticulture and viniculture are used to produce dessert wines
  • Know the difference between Port, Sherry, Sauterne, Late Harvest and Ice wines
  • Have a try at matching dessert wines with desserts
This session includes dessert wines and desserts!
Discount Deal! - Complete all four sessions and pay only $60.00 for session 4.
Date: 29th June 6pm - 9pm
Cost: 100.00 - includes dessert wine tasting selection plus delicious desserts to accompany.
 

Class Size:

A minimum of ten participants is required for each course.

Entry Requirement:

Open. Under 18yrs require parental or guardian consent as this course includes wine tasting.
