Overseas Experience Training 

Mahurangi Technical Institute's Overseas Experience Training offers you excellent training and qualifications required to work internationally. The OE (Overseas Experience) course includes the Standards of Training Certification & Watchkeeping for Seafarer's (STCW95) Basic Training.  (This is a minimum prerequisite for crew working on MCA registered vessels - see STCW95 page). PLUS the CBES/RYA Power Boat Level 2 certificate (basic boat handling and seamanship skills - ideal training for driving the vessel's tenders). PLUS the Maritime Restricted Operator's Certificate (MROC) (a basic licence enabling you to operate a marine radio including voice procedure and distress calling).


Qualification:

Candidates who successfully complete Overseas Experience Training will receive:

  • STCW 95 Competence in Fire Fighting and Fire Prevention Certificate (Basic Fire Fighting) 
  • STCW 95 Competence in Personal Survival Techniques Certificate (Basic Sea Survival) 
  • STCW 95 Competence in Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities Certificate (PSSR)
  • STCW 95 Competence in Elementary First Aid 
  • CBES/RYA Power Boat Level 2 
  • Maritime Restricted (Radio) Operator's Certificate 
  • MNZ Certificate of STCW95 Basic Training
     

2010 Start Dates:

3 May; 17 May; 23 August 2010

Duration:

10 days total.  Duration of individual modules are as follows:

  • Personal Sea Survival Techniques: 2 Days (Monday-Tuesday)
  • Personal Safety & Social Responsibility: ½ Day (Wednesday)
  • Competence in Fire Fighting and Fire Prevention: 2½ Days (Wednesday-Friday)
  • Elementary First Aid: 2 Day (Monday-Tuesday)
  • Maritime Restricted Operator's Certificate: ½ Day (Wednesday)
  • CBES/RYA Power Boat Level 2: 2½ Days (Wednesday-Friday)

Class Size:

Maximum of 6.  During the power boat training candidate/instructor ratio will be 3:1.  

Entry Requirement:

Minimum age 18. 

Fees:

Domestic students: NZ$1809.00
International students: NZ$2364.00

Student Benefits:

Student loans and allowances are not available for this package.

Accreditation:

Maritime New Zealand (STCW 95).  RYA certificates by Coastguard Boating Education on behalf of the Royal Yachting Association, Southhampton, UK.
