RYA/MCA COASTAL SKIPPER - SAIL 

The RYA/MCA Coastal Skipper course is designed for those with a basic knowledge and understanding of sailing and navigation.  The 6 week training package includes radar, milebuilder, navigation theory, STCW 95 Basic Training and the practical exam.
This Certificate of Competency allows the holder to skipper yachts up to 24m in length and to be Chief Mate on vessels of up to 500 tonnes within 60 miles of a safe haven overseas.


Qualification:

The successful candidate will receive:

  • RYA Yachtmaster Coastal Shorebased Certificate 
  • STCW 95 Competence in Fire-fighting and Fire Prevention Certificate 
  • STCW 95 Personal Survival Techniques Certificate 
  • STCW 95 Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities Certificate 
  • STCW 95 Competence in Elementary First Aid 
  • MNZ Certificate of STCW95 Basic Training
  • Restricted Radar Observer's Certificate (for the 6 week course only) 
  • Maritime Restricted Operator's Certificate 
  • RYA/MCA Coastal Skipper Certificate of Competency. Issued to successful candidates by the RYA of Southampton, UK.

Class Size:

Maximum 10 persons per classroom

Entry Requirement:

Candidates should have logged 30 days seatime, with 2 days of acting as skipper and 800 nautical miles, with a total of at least 12 night hours.  Candidates enrolling in the 6 week course have their seatime requirements reduced to 20 days with 2 days of acting as skipper and 400 miles, with 12 night hours.  Half of the qualifying sea time must have been conducted in tidal waters.If you wish your RYA Coastal Skipper certificate to be commercially endorsed, you are required to hold a seafarer's medical certificate.

Domestic students:         6 week course: NZ$7,000.00
                                        4 week course: NZ$4,900.00

International students:  6 week course: NZ$7,704.00
                                        4 week course: NZ$5,664.00

Student Benefits:

Student loans and allowances are not available for this package.

Accreditation:

This course is accredited with the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) of Southampton, UK who will issue the Certificate of Competency.
