AccommodationWhat happens if there is no room in the MTI hostel for me to stay when I am doing my course?We will provide you with a list of alternative accommodation options and liase with you to organise somewhere for you to stay. Can I provide my drivers license as a form of identification?NO - this is not accepted by the Ministry of Education to establish identity. What if my NZ Passport has expired?An expired New Zealand passport is still a valid form of identification What types of identification are accepted?There are two methods of establishing identity that we can accept. A. A sighted, verified copy of a form of ID (eg passport or birth certificate). WE CANNOT USE A DIVERS LICENSE AS ID B. Previous enrolment with MTI (only if within the previous 12 months & providing we still have the ID on file) What if I have been married more than once?You will need to provide all your marriage certificates so we can get the connection between your birth name and the name you are using now. For example: Your current name is Mary Ferguson and you have been married twice. - You were born Mary Jones (we need this NZ birth certificate) - You were married and became Mary Sutton (we need this marriage certificate) - You were married again as Mary Sutton and became Mary Ferguson (we need this marriage certificate) The connection here will then be Jones - to Sutton - to Ferguson. However if you have gone back to your maiden name then your NZ birth certificate is sufficient. What if I don't have a birth certificateApply to Births, Deaths & Marriages (Internal Affairs) by phoning 0800 225 252. The cost is $30 and the approximate processing time is 3 weeks I do not have a NZ passport but I am a permanent resident of NZ.You need a verified copy of your overseas passport showing a 'current' residents permit or a Certificate of Citizenship, or a letter of confirmation from the NZ Immigration Service. Contact us for specific details and costs. Please remember that course numbers are limited and priority will be given to those wishing to complete all modules. Who recognizes the Royal Yachting Association Certificates?The RYA/MCA Certificates are recognized in all the major superyacht-registering countries. In most countries a professional licence is required in order to work on a yacht. Most of the world’s superyachts are registered in “red ensign” countries (for tax purposes) and these countries’ maritime regulations come under the UK’s MCA (Maritime & Coastguard Agency). The MCA fully recognizes the RYA/MCA courses we deliver. RYA Coastal Skipper Sail Do the fees incude accommodation costs (I am a NZr)? And what is the difference between the 4 week and 6 week courses?No the fees do not include accommodation costs - please refer to the Student Information page. Special accommodation packages are listed under Hostel Pricing. The RYA 6-week course (Sail only) has the 5 days Mile-builder and 5 days Radar module in addition to the 4 week course which includes Theory, STCW95, MROC radio and Practical Sail Training + Exam. How many people will be on the course?We limit the numbers on our courses in order to maintain a high tutor to student ratio. This enables us to provide the highest level of personal tuition for you. Our practical modules on the yacht are restricted to a maximum of 5 students to 1 instructor, while the classroom modules are generally limited to 10-15 students.
